Day 5.

The team stage of the project tour is the main highlight of the sixth day of the International Open Climate Olympiad (IOCE). Participants worked on a challenge developed by the UN Global Compact Network Russia. The task for the students is to identify five sustainable development Goals and find indicators for each of them. These indicators had to address current environmental and social challenges, taking into account advances in climate science as well as the specific conditions of different countries and regions. Teams also had to adapt their indicators to the conditions of their own country or region.
Zain ul Abadin came to Sirius from Pakistan and became the only representative of his country at the Olympiad. The student admits that the team stage was the most difficult one; however, the support of his new friends in Sirius helped him overcome his anxiety. Now he feels confident in his abilities and is proud to represent his country at such a prestigious event.
"The IOCE Olympiad is not just an intellectual competition. It is a unique platform where participants from all over the world can share knowledge and ideas to promote and improve environmental safety," says Zain ul Abadin.
Sit Bon An, a participant from Myanmar, is happy to be at Sirius. He said that every round is like a door to new knowledge. His dream is to open a laboratory in Ethiopia that would carry out research and experiments in ecology. The country possesses a unique natural environment and biodiversity, which creates ideal conditions for studying interactions within ecosystems, he notes.
"If I had the opportunity to change the ecological situation in the world, I would focus on transforming the economic and financial systems. Ecology is a complex interaction between animals, plants, and humans, and this interaction can range from harmonious cooperation to competition. I strive to contribute to creating solutions that help preserve and restore ecosystems, improve the quality of life for local communities, and support sustainable development. A new laboratory could become a center for international cooperation between scientists and young specialists, joining forces to address global environmental challenges," shares the participant from Myanmar.
Tomorrow, the students will present their projects following the results of the team stage of the theoretical tour.
